What are cookies?

Cookies are small text files that a website stores on your device (computer, tablet or phone) when you visit it. They let the site remember things about your visit, for example that you are signed in, or the choices you have made, either for the duration of your visit (“session” cookies) or across visits (“persistent” cookies). Cookies set by the site you are visiting are called first-party cookies; cookies set through the site by another organisation are third-party cookies.

How generation-y.gr uses cookies

Generation Y is the data controller for the cookies used on this site. We use cookies for two purposes only:

• Running the site: a small number of strictly necessary cookies that keep the site secure and working, such as session authentication and remembering your cookie choices.
• Measuring how the site is used: visitor statistics through Google Analytics 4, loaded via Google Tag Manager, and only if you consent.

All measurement tags on this site load exclusively through Google Tag Manager, which respects your consent state using Google Consent Mode v2: every non-essential purpose is denied by default. No statistics or marketing cookie is set on your device before you give consent. Until you do, Google tags may at most send cookieless, anonymous pings that store nothing on your device (“advanced” consent mode). The cookie-related information we collect is not used to personally identify you, and cookies are not used for purposes other than those described in this document.

Cookie categories

The cookies used on this site fall into four categories. The consent banner shows a category only when cookies in that category are actually in use on the site.

• Necessary: required for the site to work and to stay secure. These are always on and cannot be switched off; under the law, your consent is not required for them.
• Statistics: help us understand how visitors use the site (which pages are viewed, how visitors arrive) so we can improve it. Set only with your consent.
• Marketing: used to show relevant advertising or measure the effectiveness of campaigns. Set only with your consent.
• Other: functionality and personalization cookies that remember preferences you set. Set only with your consent.

Your choices

On your first visit a cookie banner asks for your decision, with equally prominent Accept all and Reject all buttons and a Manage preferences panel where you can turn each optional category on or off individually. You do not have to accept optional cookies to use the site.

Your decision is stored in a first-party cookie named gy_consent, which records your choice for each category. It is kept for a maximum of one year, after which the banner will ask you again. No cookie set by this site itself lives longer than one year.

Changing or withdrawing your consent

You can change or withdraw your consent at any time:

• Use the Cookie Settings link in the footer of every page; it reopens the preferences panel with your current choices, which you can then update.
• Or delete this site's cookies in your browser; that removes the gy_consent cookie along with the rest, and the banner will ask again on your next visit.

Withdrawing consent for a category stops those cookies from being set from that point on; cookies already on your device can be removed through your browser settings.

The cookies we use

The complete, always current list of cookies in each category (name, provider, duration and purpose) is shown inside the banner's Manage preferences panel, reachable at any time via the footer's Cookie Settings link. That inventory is refreshed by an automated weekly scan of the site, so we keep it there rather than in a static table on this page. The principal cookies are:

_v2_session

A short-lived session cookie used for form security (CSRF protection) on interactive pages. First-party, strictly necessary; lasts for the browser session.

gy_consent

Stores your cookie choices so the banner does not reappear on every visit. First-party, strictly necessary; kept for up to 1 year.

_ga and _ga_* (e.g. _ga_XXCQSF5V9P)

Set for Google Analytics 4, loaded through Google Tag Manager, to distinguish visitors and hold per-session state for usage statistics. Statistics category; kept for up to 1 year. Set only after you consent to statistics cookies.

_fbp

Set by the Meta (Facebook) pixel to deliver and measure advertising across sites. Marketing category; kept for up to 3 months. Set only after you consent to marketing cookies.

_gcl_au

Set by Google (Ads conversion linker) to attribute conversions to ad clicks. Marketing category; kept for up to 3 months. Set only after you consent to marketing cookies.

_ttp, ttcsid and ttcsid_*

Set by the TikTok pixel to measure ad performance and recognise visitors across sessions. Kept for up to 1 year. Set only after you give the matching consent.

_tt_enable_cookie

Set by the TikTok pixel to record whether TikTok cookie tracking is enabled. Kept for up to 1 year. Set only after you give the matching consent.

Managing cookies in your browser

Independently of the banner, every modern browser lets you view, delete and block cookies (for individual sites or altogether) through its settings. If you block strictly necessary cookies, parts of the site (such as signing in) may stop working, and you may need to make certain choices again on each visit.
